Make It Stick: How memory science can transform language teaching
Подробнее о выступлении
In an age of constant digital stimulation and information overload, many language learners struggle not only to retain new knowledge, but to focus long enough to process it meaningfully. At the same time, outdated study habits such as re-reading, highlighting, and rote repetition remain widespread, despite their limited impact on long-term learning. This talk explores how we can counter these challenges by applying key principles from cognitive psychology to language teaching. Moving beyond spaced repetition, we will examine evidence-based strategies such as retrieval practice, interleaving, and the use of desirable difficulties, all of which can improve memory, attention, and learner engagement. We will also address the cognitive cost of multitasking and the importance of intentional lesson design in today’s attention-fragmented world. Attendees will leave with a practical, research-informed toolkit for creating more focused, memorable, and brain-friendly language learning experiences.
